SLED is investigating after an officer involved shooting at a Low Country Walmart, Monday night. The North Charleston Police Department says an officer was off duty and working security at the Walmart on Rivers Avenue.
A customer was reportedly trying to make a fraudulent return. When confronted the suspect then ran from the store. The suspect reportedly pointed a gun at the officer, who then fired striking the suspect.
The suspect who has not been identified was taken to a hospital to be treated. There's been no update on their condition.
SLED is looking into the shooting which is standard protocol. The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
