One person is dead following a two vehicle collision in McCormick County. The crash happened around 5:30 Saturday evening on Highway 23 about 10 miles west of Edgefield. The Highway Patrol says that both vehicles were traveling east on Hwy 23, when the 15 year old driver of one vehicle passed a Ford truck and then attempted to change lanes. The driver of the Ford truck was trying to avoid being hit by the other vehicle and ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and went off the left side of the road and hit a tree. The driver of the Ford truck died at the scene of the crash.
The Highway Patrol did not release the identity of either of the drivers, but they did say the deceased driver was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle, the crash remains under investigation.
