An inmate is back in custody after escaping from a Western North Carolina prison, over the weekend. The Spindale Police Department says 33 year old, Roy Steven Buff escaped from the Rutherford Correctional Center just after 1PM, Sunday afternoon.
Officials say Buff made a break for it during family visitation hours. He was located around 6PM less than a mile from the prison.
Buff is serving time for felony assault and prior to the escape was set for release, next year. Prison officials say Buff will be moved to a higher security prison and will face additional charges for escaping.
