A man was injured over the weekend in Georgia after he was bitten by a rabid raccoon. Officials at the Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC), say that the man was trying to save the injured raccoon when he was bitten.
The man found the animal and held it while he was driving to the center when it bit him on his face and hands. He then wrapped the animal in a blanket and duct tape.
The man arrived at the CNC, and staff met him in the parking lot and put the raccoon in a kennel. The animal was then euthanized and later tested positive for rabies.
CNC staff said the man endangered himself and others with his actions. They are reminding the public to call wildlife experts and let them handle situations like these and not to handle potentially rabid animals on their own.
