The fate of an upstate racetrack that was the site of NASCAR's first green flag to checkered flag live TV broadcast in 1971, is making a pit stop.

The Pickens County Planning Commission is considering the future of the historic Greenville-Pickens Speedway that dates back decades. Former drivers and race fans gave hours of impassioned pleas to the commission to preserve the historic site.

The track is under the ownership of Realty Link, they have proposed developments on the site, with construction being required for some of its projects. The half mile track closed about four year ago.

The Planning Commission ultimately tabled the proposal. It will likely be discussed at the next meeting in March, but since it was tabled, there will be no public comment, next time.
