An investigation is ongoing after a threat was made against one Western North Carolina town for the 2nd time in as many weeks. The Highlands Police Department says they received a report of a bomb threat, Tuesday afternoon.
The threat was made for the area of Main Street, the same area that was the subject of a swatting hoax about two weeks ago. Multiple police departments and the Macon County Sheriff's Office all responded to the area, Tuesday.
A bomb dog was called to the scene but after a thorough search, no credible threat was found. Officials have ruled the threat a hoax given the lack of evidence and it being similar to the prior threat.
No arrests have been announced and no suspects have been publicly identified. The FBI and North Carolina State Agents have been called into investigate.
