Spartanburg's Mayor calls for stop to rising gun violence

The Mayor in one Upstate city is calling fora stop in the recent upswing in violence. Spartanburg Mayor Jerome Rice released a statement Monday addressing the recent increase in gun violence, around the city.

Spartanburg has seen multiple shootings in recent weeks. Rice also implored gun owners to be responsible, as the city has seen multiple recent cases if guns being stolen.

Spartanburg Police Chief Alonzo Thompson echoed Rice's statement saying "We've had gun violence throughout my tenure, but the amount of gun violence especially involving our youth is very concerning".

The Mayor also asked that parents be vigilant in preventing violence by young people. Rice says he plans to keep working with city leaders to curb the violence.
