A notable turnout as various legislators spoke at the Only Citizens Vote bus tour that stopped in front of Audacy Greenville and WORD’s studio Thursday.

The parking lot was packed from listeners who came out to see the event, where WORD’s Charlie James and various state and US legislators from South Carolina and beyond spoke in favor of the Save Act that has been floating in Congress for years now.

US Congressman from the Upstate William Timmons was at the event, where he explained that “I’ve been in Congress six and a half years, we’ve been working on it since day one. The whole purpose of this is to create the pressure to get leader Thune to put it on the floor. I don’t care if the Democrats vote against it, but they need to be on the record. Because 80 plus percent of the American people believe that you should be a US citizen – that you have to be a US citizen to vote.”

State Representative and SC Freedom Caucus Chair Jordan Pace also spoke at the event, saying how passing the Save Act would affect their efforts on the state level.
Pace explained that “Overwhelmingly, South Carolinians have said ‘we want closed Primaries’. Well for 20 years, the bill’s been filed and gone nowhere. Some of the arguments that they’ve trotted out saying that ‘we can’t do this because of federal whatever’. Passing the Save Act takes all of the excuses away.”

He further explained other reasons he supports the act. You can find video of the entire event on the 98.9 WORD Facebook page.
