A planned data center is causing an uproar in the Upstate. The potential data center in Spartanburg County known as "Project Spero" has been a hot button topic.
District 12 State Senator Lee Bright joined the Charlie James Show Thursday afternoon to talk about the issue and how residents of the County have responded.
Bright said " We had an event in Spartanburg with the county party and I think we had about 450 people there. And at the same time across the street, they had several hundred people there in opposition of County Council giving incentives for a data center".
Bright would expound on that saying " The place was full across the street. I can only imagine how people we would have had, if that event wasn't scheduled at the same time. So, I could not believe that they (Spartanburg County Council) voted to move something along, when the overwhelming number of people in the community are against it".
Bright says he feels like leaders in Spartanburg County who have supported the data center are tone def in not listening to the voice of the people on this issue.
