A man has been arrested after giving a Western North Carolina elementary school a fake name to gain access to the building.
Daniel Gregory Whelan, who gained entry through use of the fake name “Kyle Hoppe”, was reported as an intruder Friday morning at West Elementary School in Swain County. Which is an roughly an hour west of Asheville.
When Swain County deputies responded to the scene, they found Whelan in the cafeteria storage room.
He was arrested and is currently being held at the Swain County Detention Center on various charges including felony breaking and entering.
