A suspect is in custody after a weekend standoff in Pickens County. The incident began Saturday when the suspect tried to access a secure area of a church where children were present.
The suspect who has not yet been publicly identified was restrained by security. A family member of the suspect contacted the Pickens County Sheriff's Office and told them the suspect was facing drug and mental health issues.
A judge then signed an order to have the suspect taken into custody to be medically evaluated. By that time the suspect had went to a home on Hollingsworth Drive in Pickens.
When Deputies arrived there to serve the legal order, the suspect ran inside the home and a standoff ensued. Deputies first believed a woman was being held hostage but discovered she had been released and had left the home.
The standoff lasted through the night and the suspect was taken into custody, Sunday morning after a short physical struggle.
No injuries were reported in the incident and the formal charges against the suspect have not yet been announced, as of this time.
