An armed suspect is dead after an officer involved shooting in Western North Carolina. It was mayhem in the mountains, when the Asheville Police Department responded to a report of a man pointing a rifle at people.
Police arrived just after 5 PM to the area of Chatham Road and they discovered that the suspect had assaulted a contract worker for the City Of Asheville with a shovel.
Once on scene, the suspect pointed a rifle at officers and a shooting ensued. The man retreated and was later found dead inside a home. The suspect has been identified as 58 year old, Chad Owen Herman.
The North Carolina Bureau Of Investigation has been called in which is standard protocol in officer involved shootings.
