Evacuations are now mandatory in the battle against the Table Rock Mountain wildfires. Wind-driven flames jumped the break that had been cut over the weekend to guard the Persimmon Ridge area from the advance of the fire.

The prospect of people getting trapped on narrow roads between the fire-front and Table Rock reservoir prompted the mandatory evacuation order for a list of locations in Greenville and Pickens Counties.
Evacuees are being sheltered at Marietta First Baptist Church on the Geer Highway until further arrangements can be made.
The State Forestry Commission website warns that the low-humidity and high wind conditions combined with the massive amount of fuel in the virtual boneyard of timber downed by Hurricane Helene will challenge firefighters for many hours to come.
Together, the fires in Table Rock State Park and Persimmon Ridge have now blackened two-point-three square miles.
