The impact of a data breach in Spartanburg County has widened after a full review of the incident was completed this month.
Back in August of this year, unauthorized access was detected in the County’s internal network. The unauthorized access was cut off, but several files had already been copied.
The County previously believed only employee information within onboarding files had been stolen, but following a full review completed earlier this month, nearly 10,000 residents are now believed to be affected.
In a statement, the County said, “After identifying that this occurred, we reviewed the files to identify whose information was involved so we could arrange to provide those individuals with notice and an offer of complimentary identity monitoring.”
