A pair of suspects are facing charges after two children were injured after a weekend shooting in the Midlands. The Newberry County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Wilson Road just outside of the town of Newberry around 6:30 PM, Sunday.
Deputies found two young children suffering from gunshot wounds. They were both taken to a hospital to be treated. The Sheriff's Office now says the mother of the children, 28 year old Tyresa Cunningham, and 21 year old Tyleik Sanders have both been arrested in connection to the incident.
They are both charged with unlawful conduct towards a child. Sanders is also charged with obstructing justice. Investigators say the children got the gun from a closet in the home. Four children in all were in the home. Sanders is said to be the father of one of the children.
He said he was in the shower, and Cunningham claimed she was cleaning the house when the incident happened. They are both being held at the Newberry County Jail.
