SCDNR investigators say a fast moving boat was running without lights when it rammed another one carrying five people on Lake Greenwood, around 2AM Sunday.
Two people on the boat that was hit died of their injuries, two others were taken to the hospital. Investigators say their boat was properly lighted when it was struck.
A man identified as Allen Sidney Benware Jr. III is charged with two felony counts of boating under the influence.
The SCDNR report says officers who were patrolling the lake were attempting to catch up with the unlighted boat when the collision happened.
Benware is being held at the Laurens County Detention Center. The crash happened on the Laurens County side of the lake.
Officials have released the names of the victims, Thomas Chandler Davis and Abby Katherine Davis, both 23, and both from Laurens.
