An off duty Anderson County detective is dead after a collision Wednesday in Anderson County. That crash occurred around 1:15PM on Anderson Highway near Vernon Street, just outside the city limits of Williamston.
The driver of a 2005 Buick sedan was making a left turn into a private drive, in front of a biker on a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle. The driver of the Buick was not injured, but the biker, 56 year old Mark Garret died at the scene.
Garret was an Anderson County Sheriff's Office detective, who had been a fire fighter before joining law enforcement in 2009 and had worked for several agencies in Clemson, Williamston and Anderson County.
His son is also an Anderson County Sheriff's deputy. The Highway Patrol has arrested the driver of the Buick involved in that collision. Douglas Lueck of Williamston is charged with felony DUI resulting in death.
He was booked at the Anderson County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, scheduled to be Thursday at 4PM. That collision remains under investigation by the Anderson County Coroner's Office and the Highway Patrol.
