An Upstate man will spend over a decade in prison for his involvement with a Mexican drug cartel. The U.S. Attorney's Office says, an investigation was launched into a drug trafficking operation with ties to the Sinaloa Cartel in 2023.
26 year old, Nicolas Uribe-Tamayo of Easley was determined to be the local contact for the cartel. Court records say that while under surveillance Uribe-Tamayo transported a kilo of meth to Charlotte. He was then pulled over in a traffic stop and the vehicle was searched.
The search uncovered the kilo of meth, an AR-15 style gun, ammo and digital scales. Last November, Uribe-Tamayo pleaded guilty to a charge of intent to distribute meth.
He has now been sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison, there's no parole or release in the federal system.
