The armed robbery suspect Anderson Police thought had holed up in a motel surrounded by the SWAT squad is still at large. As it turned out, he wasn't there after all.
Anderson Police Chief Jim Stewart says the man had pulled a gun on the clerk at Anderson Liquors on Williamston Street shortly after 10:00 o'clock.
Then, according to witnesses, he fled on foot across the street to the Southerner Motel where it was believed he had barricaded himself in a room.
But at the end of a protracted standoff, and efforts to negotiate a surrender, police who finally forced there way in found the room empty. No word at this point on any leads to his capture.
