A woman hoarding fuel in the trunk of her car caught on fire after crashing the vehicle while attempting to elude law enforcement.
The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident began on Thursday evening when a deputy saw a 2007 Pontiac G6 with a South Carolina license plate that had been reported stolen.
When the deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop, the driver sped away. According to a release, the deputy had not even radioed in the events when the driver of the Pontiac lost control of the vehicle.
The car left the road, flipped over, caught fire, and multiple explosions were heard in the car. The driver exited the car and was herself on fire.
The deputy helped put out the flames on the driver. She was taken to a local hospital by EMS.
Before leaving the scene, the driver, identified as 28-year-old Jessica Gale Patterson said she was transporting several containers of fuel that she was hoarding in the trunk of the vehicle, which in turn caused the explosions.
