00:00
All right, let's go to the WRG talk live and talk to Robert in Mills River. How you doing, Robert? I'm doing good. I caught in a little early today. Charlie, I hear you at six o'clock, man. But I'm going to tell you straight up, I didn't like nothing that Prime Minister of Iran had to say. And that little old gal backing him all the way. And then when the other guy come on, yeah, he was talking there. I mean, he talked so
00:26
cool and he's smiling the whole time. looks just like a true Republican look on there. And he just lashed right back at that little gal. don't know none of her names on ABC there, but I was there with that. And it was terrible to me the way she greeted the guy from the ranch, so great. uh
00:50
kind of like the other guy she was trying her best to get some on him. I really I don't understand what here I do understand why I do understand 100%. It's all got to do with Donald Trump. It's just Donald Trump that seems so bad don't that they have. Well, I'm glad I my 2028 at Charlie. There you go. Hi Roberts got his 2028 hat on and he is ready to go. I buddy I appreciate about me and well you see.
01:19
heads explode, let Trump announce he's going to run for president again. Oh, take that to the Supreme Court and see. This was amazing. When I saw this this weekend, I was like, what? Are you kidding me? We all know Jasmine Crockett. We all know Jasmine Crockett. Failed in her primary bid to James Tellerico. She lost.
01:48
to a guy that says God is non-binary. She lost to a guy that says Jesus was in favor of abortion. She lost, that's the guy that she lost to, okay? So now we found out that a member of, well, listen to this on Fox News, this is gonna blow your mind. We do have some news back here at home, swat officers killing Texas Congresswoman
02:17
Jasmine Krogh gets former bodyguard in a standoff in Dallas last week. Law enforcement sources telling CBS News that he had been wanted for impersonating a police officer. He was shot after reportedly driving to a parking garage and barricading himself inside a car. Eventually, officers used tear gas to force him out. That's when officers say he pulled a gun on law enforcement. Police have not released his real name yet. We do have some news back here at home. believe that?
02:46
A member of Jasmine Crockett's head of security.
02:53
This guy.
02:57
imitating a police officer.
03:01
Yeah, I know that's Unfortunately, that's a crime I have committed, but I'll tell you that story later. Anyway, so this guy impersonating a police officer.
03:17
pulled a gun, this was a jasmine Crockett. Even over at CBS News, they said, despite the criminal background, ah Representative Jasmine Crockett's longtime security guard, he was a wanted fugitive going by the alias Mike King, was shot and killed by Dallas SWAT after a standoff in the parking garage at the Children's Health Hospital.
03:44
The convicted felon had a criminal history dating back to 2009, including felony and misdemeanor charges. He was actively wanted on an outstanding warrant for impersonating a police officer. CBS News said, despite the criminal background, sources say Robinson was able to forge a new identity as Mike King, where he not only became a prominent figure as a security officer for Representative Crockett while in office and during her recent US Senate campaign.
04:13
Sources said the convicted felon was also able to run a business placing North Texas law enforcement officers in off-duty jobs through his business called Off Duty Police Services. Some of those officers told CBS News that Robinson, who they knew as Mike King, told them he was a detective with the U.S. Capitol Police, which may have led to the federal investigation that resulted in the hunt for him last week. Impersonating a police officer.
04:44
is not a good thing.
04:48
But I'll be honest with you, I've done it. What's the statute of limitations on that? I'm pretty sure it's run out by now. So when I was in high school, we knew we had a feud going at this Catholic high school. Yeah, this is a big feud, right? It was a big feud. uh Had this feud going between my group of friends and these other guys. It was a big feud. So we got together, my buddy Pat Hatch and I.
05:15
We decided because we know these guys used to go down to a place called um the pits. It was like it was like an old uh landfill where an old landfill used to be. And we knew that they would go to the pits and smoke pot. Well, the pits was also a very popular makeout spot, right? Lots of teenagers go there and make out. So Patrick and I decided that.
05:43
I had a 1973 Plymouth Fury 3. This thing was a city block long, man. It was brown with a brown paisley top. It was the ugliest car on the road, but it looked kind of like a big police car. So we got my car and I went to a guy named Jimmy Watkins' dad and I said, Mr. Watkins, do you have a revolving light? And he said, yeah, I have an amber one. I said, can I borrow it? He said, yes.
06:13
but I don't want to know what you're gonna do with it. And I said, that's a good thing. So I got this amber light, I took the top off and I wrapped it around one of those clear, ah like a report folder, clear plastic and it was blue and I put that around the light. And it was magnetic. So we stuck it to the roof of my car. We waited, we waited at the Godfather's parking lot and we waited to see the other groups.
06:42
car go by. So we knew they were going to be at the pits, knew they were going to be smoking pot. And we, uh we put this, we went into the entrance of the pits. I got out, I put the magnetic light on there and I had this
07:01
Red box light it was very very bright as a flashlight very bright so Patrick was holding it out like a spotlight out of the car window and we turned these lights on and we go rating through the pits and cars were scattering everywhere and they were flying all over the place and uh That was my that was my but you do that these days you get shot But back then you know bunch of goofy
07:28
Catholic kids out there. We knew we were pretty safe, but ah nothing I would recommend anybody ever do. We'll take a quick break and be right back. It's the Charlie James Show News Talk 98.9 WORD, the voice of the Carolinas.
07:51
And welcome back to the program. Glad to have you along with us on this Monday afternoon. I know it's been a nasty, nasty Monday. Well, as I told you before, what President Trump is doing over in Iran is he is exposing all of those people that aren't really our allies. They were frenemies at best. England, France, we've known that about France ever since Macron.
08:21
and Canada, Canada as well.
08:27
the Canadian government and here you've got the members of the IRGC, the Iranian Guard living in Canada.
08:43
They are refusing to deport them. you want to know why?
08:48
Well, we don't have any flights to Iran, Yeah, we got to leave them here, eh? We got to leave them all up here in Canada, eh? Because we just don't have any flights going out to Iran, eh? You don't have any military flights you can put them on? The Iranian Guard, the people that were shooting the protesters in the back, the people that are loyal to the Islamic regime?
09:13
How about you do this? You arrest them. You seize their asset.
09:20
You keep them under close watch. That's what you should do. But Canada's not even doing that. Just no flights to Iran, Can you believe it? Yeah. That's who they are.
09:40
No, I do. Listen, they're not. They are not. Your friends. In fact, Canada's military was actually attacked by the Islamic Republic back on March 1st. Mark Carney didn't even mention it.
10:00
The prime minister is completely okay with the Islamic regime trying to slaughter their soldiers. Nobody said a word about it. Unbelievable. Let's go to Bill in Rock Hill. Bill, welcome.
10:17
gonna do.
10:22
I covered feeding my kids.
10:26
put Trump in there to give us some relief and it seems like it's yet to happen. Well, it did happen until about what, three weeks ago? Yeah, but I mean, you're talking 20, 30 cent. mean, you know, you know, I'm my dad, my life has not really gotten a lot better since Trump's gotten in. mean, you know, inflation is still high. No, not. It's not. It's 2.4 percent. Under Joe Biden, it was over 9 percent.
11:02
No, grocery prices are down now under Donald Trump than they were under Joe Biden.
11:11
I them, you know, I don't feel much relief and you know, my life was pretty peaceful before the Iran and I'm a Trump supporter. So I support Trump doing what he's doing, but it's still hurting the average Joe's pocketbook. You know, I'm trying to decide, hey, do I get gas or feed my kids? All right. Well, I appreciate it, Bill. I don't think we've gotten to the get gas or feed the kids.
11:41
portion yet. I don't I be honest with you. Since the war started. I haven't even filled up yet. I haven't filled up yet. Let's go to Neil in Greenville Neil welcome. Hey Charlie thanks for taking my call. I keep hearing occasionally some people say and all these gas prices and not supporting the war in Iran. I don't understand how these people.
12:09
where were they after the last forty seven years while these iranians were killing americans yeah attacking our ship attacking our military right shouting death to america this we didn't start this war just like the rest of them trump is ending this war yeah i'll talk to an iranian person and ask him what they think about that president trump right now yeah they will love him they are out they absolutely they say they are in bedded
12:35
to him because he has liberated these people. So all of you idiots out there who can't support the fact that our president wants to liberate the world and bring peace, we can't help you. We can't help you. Okay. Thanks, Charlie. I appreciate it. Thank you. Let's say, let's say gas prices went up 30 cent a gallon. Let's say you got a 16 gallon tank, right? You see where I'm going with this? You got 30 cents a gallon.
13:07
and you got a 16 gallon tank.
13:10
you are paying $4.80 more for a fill up. $4.80.
13:20
If that $4.80
13:25
Well, let me put it this I doubt that's keeping you from putting food on the table. All right? Now, if you just want to be mad at Trump, I don't mind that. Go ahead, be mad at Trump all you want to. That's absolutely fine.
13:40
But I don't think we have not known hardship. We've not known it.
13:47
in this country.
13:50
Not this generation. My grandfather's generation, they knew hardship during World War II when they had had, I mean, you had to have food rations. They had all of these, you couldn't get rubber products, you couldn't get silk. Were we going to Chet? We're going to Jeff and Easley. Jeff, welcome. My only question is, Charlie, why were they not saying nothing when Biden had gas down to your $5 a gallon? What's up with that? Yeah.
14:19
I mean, people were complaining about it, my goodness. I mean, it's still lower than it was, right? Exactly. I don't get it. I'm just, and again, if you just, if you just don't like Trump, just say it. I'm okay with that. I got friends that don't like Trump. Fine. I don't care. Don't like him. But to make it like this is the end of the world.
14:50
No, no, no, no, let's go to Mark Impeller. Mark, welcome. Hey, how are you? I'm doing good. What's up, So first of all, again, you was talking about the the four dollars and eighty cents. So those are the same people that probably ordering door dash and going out and getting Starbucks and everything else and want to complain about all of those things. Right.
15:18
that should be that should be breaking you we've got a support we've got it or edit for the long haul what what what i think we need to do is if the uh... if the other countries are going to help us with the uh... or move let's just go ahead and take it for ourselves for everybody else love that idea love that idea
15:44
charge a huge tariff of any other country that did not support us in the Strait of Hormuz. You're exactly right. I appreciate it. Mark, got to hit a break here. Lots of folks want to talk about it. It's the Charlie James Show. News Talk 98.9, WORD, the voice of the Carolinas.
16:20
i'd as well the phones are tied up in the in boiling springs how you doing very uh... property after the week the old you know yes sir yeah i think i got a good tip for everybody i think i'm going to have that clean up people out there needed tissue for crying if everybody's been paying attention the gas is gone up yeah we all see it and it is a small price to pay for all that you have any families walk uh... uh... there are there were
16:50
to the hands of the Iranians. And I'm not talking just here in the United States. How about over in Germany and in France when the suicide bombers were doing it? Right. So let's bring it up to date here. Yeah, it is going to go up, but it's going to drop drastically as soon as he cleans up that area. Cuba? I'm from Miami. I remember the Cuban missile crisis as a young kid growing up and watching them coming out near Saga Bay and Amon's where we thought it was cool, waiting on the fire off.
17:20
it uh... watching all of that all the people that came over here i can tell you right now i'm not in miami i'm in the all of south carolina i love it right i'll pay right now they're they're partying down there they're all praying that he think we take it back over they have every ball of cubans over there but the press brasil cuba menaduella iraq iraq all these were taken over by parents people need to get on the game ball but what's being attacked and what's what what's been taken over so far
17:49
France, Germany, these people have already succumbed to the Muslim ways, or not, correction, the Islamist ways, not the Muslim ways, because we have a lot of good people that are Muslim here that are just on Trump's side too. So let's pay attention to the people of Iran. They're the ones that are trying to get their own country back, and we want to help them. And yes, Trump is reshaping the world. One more thing, Charlie, and I'll let you go. I do the Uber thing. Last night,
18:19
Last night and early this morning, I had two calls, two runs, one coming from both of those spots, Spartanburg, one heading to North Carolina for the airport up there, and one I picked up from the GSP head down to Clemson. Both our rides, either way. And both the among, well, one was from Michigan that moved to New York and is down here visiting, is returning his flight back to New York. Nobody in the, and another one, the other one was from Mass.
18:46
both of my car up to speed. Thank you. 98.9 the word. I am pumping your state. uh We appreciate it. I taken their pictures. I have them taking the pictures of you and 98.9 the word to Carolinas and the Odyssey app, which I listen to all the time. I'm not on the card. So God bless you guys. Keep up the great work. I love you guys. And God, please be patient with Trump. Let him get over this gas thing. Your prices will go down. I feel it the most.
19:15
Why? Because I'm out on the road. That's right. day long. should be the one calling in snow one. So guys take care. Good luck. Appreciate it Vinny. Thank you very much. Let's go to Karen over in Georgia. How you doing Karen? Hey Charlie. I'm doing well. What part of Georgia are you from? I'm um actually a South Carolina transplant who moved here a little over a year ago. um
19:42
The very north part up in Scott Alley. Raven County? Yeah. Yeah. above Clayton. There you go. All right. What's on your mind? Well, first of all, it's snowing here right now. Oh, wow. That's crazy. Yeah. This is the second time it snowed today, actually, but it's not laying. But yeah, I just listened to these people kind of being upset about the gas prices and
20:10
no one's happy about it i mean i don't know the single so who's happy about it that back alley you know these people never would survive an actual war like that like another you know that not like w that the of one of the p that the it to you know i never make it to that the that the at three because people had to really sacrifice yeah and we've forgotten about that that the war at that yet we have
20:37
And I'll never forget because my mother was British and, and, know, her town, I mean, they were bombed all the time. Right down the road, they were bombed. They had to go in a bomb shelter sometimes more than once a night and still get up and go to school the next morning, you know. It was a different breed of people, unfortunately, and all those people are passing away now if they haven't already. and I'm just thinking.
21:04
This is kind of a wimpy generation. Yeah, I keep remembering the posters that they used to have in London during the Blitz that just said, keep calm and carry on. Keep calm and carry on. need to learn from. Yep, you're right, I mean, the prices will go down. Yes, sir. They will. They will. I appreciate it, Karen. Thank you. Richard is in Greenville. Richard, how are you?
21:35
all of the across i've got a lot to say about that so right i'm sure you have to keep you've even quoted this on their baby out but i'm sure i'm not educating you but maybe when you're listening to hear this the first time hard times create strongman strongman create good times good times create weakman and weakman create hard time so yeah it's it's there's a cycle to it and and spike your previous college is that
22:02
People now don't even know what hard times are. And so we haven't had hard times and it's made us soft. To your caller that called earlier was worried about feeding his kids or filling up his gas tank, um first of all, I think he was disingenuous. I don't think he was really a Trump supporter, but I don't know.
22:22
When he says that, you know, the gas prices are bad and like your other colleagues said, nobody wants to have to pay more for gas. But I'll just remind people, love how you shut him down because when you, when you mentioned like no, uh, prices in grocery store are down and inflation is down, people who are ignorant to the facts don't have a, don't have a comeback to that. So maybe this will educate somebody too. Under Barack Obama, the highest gasoline peak at 411.
22:53
Under Joe Biden, it peaked at $5.10. So I think we've got a ways to go before we'll match those records. And people just need to stay the course and not be so soft. So thank you for what you're doing, for addressing that directly with that call. Thank you. Well, I appreciate it, Richard. Thank you very much. Boy, for some reason.
23:22
I remember those gas prices under Obama more than I remember the gas prices under Joe Biden at what, 510? Because under Obama, those years, those years, I was doing a tremendous amount of driving. I drove from North Augusta to Columbia back and forth every single day to go to work. And I burned a lot of gas on that one.
23:52
So uh right now at what, $349, I believe it is. um Historically, mean, we're still better off in just about every category than we ever were under Joe Biden. And certainly we're better off than we would have ever been under Kamala Harris. We'll be right back. This is the Charlie James Show, News Talk 98.9, WORD, the voice of the Carolinas.
24:47
Wes is in Simpsonville. Let's talk to him. How you doing, Wes? Pretty good. All right, man. What's up? OK, the guy wanted to feed his kids or whatever. childhood, childhood obesity rates in South Carolina are right at 39 percent. Chances are his kids are probably not at the proper weight, which which drives me to another thing.
25:13
It really is proven metabolically that you shouldn't eat breakfast till about noon. Okay. We were designed to uh get up and go hunt breakfast. Okay. Whether it's evolutionary or God. then, and last week when Pam Ebbett gets on talking about how proud she is that we're now feeding every kid breakfast that got to be seven in the morning. That just kind of drives me crazy. We're, we're feeding them another meal now.
25:43
When you wake up, your blood sugar, it's metabolically, it's better to not eat breakfast until noon. Okay. I eat at about nine. Yeah. I get up early though. I get up like six o'clock. Yeah. So see three hours after you eat. I don't eat breakfast until noon. But Pam, and then that drives me to the whole school thing where you have to have a doctorate.
26:12
in education to run for South Carolina education. Drives me crazy. any of those doctorate people that we've ever elected done something amazing for school? No, obviously not. Obviously not, Wes. I appreciate it, buddy. Thank you. Let's go to Steve in Brevard. How you doing, Steve? Yeah, how you doing, Charlie? Great. What's up, Listen, I'm 79 years old.
26:41
I'd like to take the audience back to 1973, during the years when OPEC thought it ran the world. OPEC is now a dead, useless, meaningless organization. But at that time, they got angry with us and they cut off the exporting of oil out of the Middle East to the United States. We had such a shortage, Charlie, and I've been through this several times. You had to stand, sit in line in your automobile.
27:09
for 15 to 30 minutes to buy a maximum of $3 worth of gas. That was all you could get. Then you drove off. What we're doing today is nothing compared to that era. The media has told you this is the greatest petroleum logistical obstacle of all time. That's baloney. This today is probably number 55 in line.
27:34
And the one that I just mentioned to you was the biggest by far in my lifetime. So, uh you know what? I would love for somebody to start up a news station and call it the truth so that we wouldn't have to live to listen to this misleading stuff about how awful this situation at Hormuz is. It's not. And the other thing, Charlie, if China needs oil from the Middle East, they need to go get it.
28:03
We're not their delivery boy. agree. I agree, Steve. I appreciate it, buddy. Thank you. that's even Caroline Levitt is saying that the price, mean, this is temporary, folks. really, really is. Rest assured to the American people, recent increase in oil and gas prices is temporary, and this operation will result in lower gas prices in the long term. Once the national security objectives of Operation Epic Fury are fully achieved,
28:33
Americans will see oil and gas prices drop rapidly, potentially even lower than they were prior to the start of the operation. All right, so that's Caroline Levitt. President Trump is releasing oil from the strategic petroleum reserves to bring down gas prices. Some folks are saying they found it for $3.19. $3.19.
28:59
I didn't know that. I did not know you folks in Greer, East Side of Greer. A power outage going on right now, but I appreciate you letting me know. Charlie, I just filled up my car for $3.29 a gallon and more. Charlie paid $3.19 a gallon at Walmart in tailors. So there you go. Charlie, there would be killings today if the OPEC situation existed. Oh, you're exactly right. oh
29:28
There would be absolute killings going on.
29:32
So it's going to be temporary. Now, the strategic petroleum reserves. There was a bill.
29:43
There was a bill.
29:49
that would have allowed President Trump to refill, refill, have my little southern accent going on there, refill our strategic petroleum reserves at $25 a barrel, $25 a barrel. And it was blocked by the Democrats. Why was it blocked by the Democrats? Because it had to go to the Senate. And the Senate, got to have 60 votes.
30:18
And John Thune, once again, did not do what he should do. Let's go to Lloyd in Greenville. Lloyd, welcome.
30:29
Hi, how are you today? I'm good, Lordy. You're a first time caller? Yes, sir. There you go. You get the bell, man. What's up? Well, I was calling, you know, all this food on the table stuff, gas prices, you know, if they check back, gas prices were high under Biden and Obama. You know, if they're worried about gas, they've got issues because
30:59
They forget that these Iranian people with their beliefs, they want to kill you. They want to kill all of us that are Christians. Yeah. I mean, and that's the bottom line. I they say they want 10 nuclear bombs. Even if they had one, if they can make it over here, they will shoot us with their ICBMs. Well, they don't even need to make it over here. They just need to attack our assets over there. We appreciate it, Lloyd. I got to hit a break here in just a second.
31:29
308 Gas, 308 at the Vigo near Liberty, 309 per gallon Cedar Springs neighborhood market in Spartanburg, 314 at the 7-Eleven. You guys let me know, are you seeing gas prices going down? Now, just as a baseline, one of the gas stations that I go by coming to work, it's kind of the one I gauge, but it's usually about 10 cents higher than a lot of places because it's kind of right off the interstate.
31:58
um And they usually they know you need gas when you're right off the interstate. So they crank it up a little bit. But let me know how much are you paying for gas right now and have you seen it come down? I don't know since yesterday. We'll be right back. It's the Charlie James show news talk 989 W or D the voice of the Carolinas.
