The Padres won perhaps their most complete game in over a week when they defeated the Diamondbacks 4-1. Things got off to a rocky start in the top of the 1st inning when the Diamondbacks loaded the bases with no outs against German Marquez, who was making his first appearance since returning from the IL. Jake Cronenworth misplayed a ground ball while making his first start of the season at first base to help load the bases, and Max Kepler drew a walk to bring in the first run of the game, which was unearned. But Nolan Arenado lined out to Sun-Mung Song who caught the ball and stepped on second base to end the inning with Arizona only scoring the lone unearned run. After Fernando Tatis Jr.'s leadoff double, Jackson Merrill drove him in with a single to right field to tie the game, and then later in the inning, Jake Cronenworth redeemed himself after making the error in the top of the 1st inning with a 3-run home run to give the Padres a 4-1 lead. That lead would hold through the entire game, with all 5 runs coming in the first inning. Jhony Brito made his season debut for San Diego, hurling 1.2 perfect innings in relief, inducing an inning-ending double play in the 6th inning and then retiring the side in order in the 7th inning, while Mason Miller locked down the 9th inning to earn his 23rd save of the season. Michael King draws the start for the Padres on Wednesday afternoon.
