Age is just a number for Michael Guadagnoli.

Ten days ago, Guadagnoli celebrated his 100th birthday, and yesterday he visited the State Fair of Texas for the 75th year in a row.

Yes, Guadagnoli has been attending the Fair every year since 1951, a tradition he looks forward to every year. Some people count down the days until Christmas. Guadagnoli counts down the days until Fair season.

His daughter, Melody Guadagnoli, told WFAA, “He puts it on the calendar, and then he puts it on a sticky note. He's very focused on the fair and the time that the fair is being held.”

Even when Covid shut down the Fair in 2020, Guadagnoli and his family participated in the drive-through experience to keep the tradition alive.

And at the Fair, Guadagnoli always makes sure to enjoy his favorite snacks: a hot dog with mustard washed down with a root beer. And occasionally, he’ll enjoy some Smokey John’s barbecue.

Karissa Condoianis, senior vice president of public relations for the State Fair of Texas, said that visitors like Guadagnoli represent what makes the Fair so special.”

“Everyone has their own state fair story, their own traditions," she said. “We're just honored that we get to be a small piece of their family story.”
