Graduating college is always impressive, regardless of how long it takes a student to reach the finish line. For one SMU student, it was an over 60 year gap between high school and college she had to overcome, and this weekend she did just that. 85-year-old Marillyn Burton Seeberger graduated from SMU over the weekend, earning herself a degree in film and media arts.
Recent SMU graduate Marillyn Burton Seeberger graduated from high school in Ardmore, Oklahoma back in 1954. While she originally planned on attending college right after high school, an engagement led to Seeberger instead starting a family and career in media and advertising. However, at 80, she decided to start attending community college classes, which led her on the path to becoming an SMU graduate.

According to NBC DFW, Seeberger hopes to use her degree to get a job in screenwriting. "I always wanted to write and I still do, and that's something I think I can still do as long as my brain is working and my fingers are working on the keyboard," said Seeberger. After graduating college, not many are betting against Seeberger reaching her new goal as well.
