For months, companies have been teasing drone delivery as the next improvement in getting products to people’s doorsteps as quickly as possible. Luckily for Texans, it appears most of these companies have picked the Lone Star state as their testing grounds. Already, Walmart has brought their drone delivery to a number of locations around the metroplex. Now, Amazon is next as they are set to begin their drone delivery trial in College Station.
Back in June, Amazon announced they would begin testing their new drone delivery service, Prime Air, in two cities, Lockeford, California and College Station, Texas. Now, the company has officially begun making shipment deliveries with drones to customers in both cities, according to The Hill. “Our aim is to safely introduce our drones to the skies. We are starting in these communities and will gradually expand deliveries to more customers over time,” said Amazon Air spokesperson, Natalie Banke.

Amazon claims once a customer places an order, a drone will fly to their backyard and descend enough to drop off the package, then fly away.
Their goal is to be able to deliver packages under 5 pounds in less than 60 minutes. Soon enough, drone delivery won’t seem so futuristic.
