With the cost of air travel continuing to rise, many travelers are looking for any way to get a discount. Luckily, some airlines offer things like free baggage in order to entice travelers to fly with them. However, one of the biggest airlines will now pay customers $7.5 million after settling a class action lawsuit over wrongfully charged baggage fees.

American Airlines recently settled a class action lawsuit brought on by two customers who claimed the airlines charged them for baggage despite having tickets that included free checked bags. Now, the airline will pay out $7.5 million to any customer who can prove they were charged for baggage with one of these tickets. The settlement allows American Airlines to avoid a trial, which was set to begin in August.

According to CBS DFW, customers who paid checked baggage fees between 2013 and 2021 are now eligible for a refund. American Airlines charges $25 each way for one bag checked on economy class flights within the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands. Hopefully the refund helps cover some of the cost to travel these days.
