For years, tattoos and facial hair were seen as career killers with many employers choosing to go with a cleaner look for their employees. However, with many businesses easing these policies in recent years, the look has become more prominent in the professional world. Now, one of the last industries still sticking to former style policies is starting to change things up as well, as the Arlington Police Department recently announced they will allow officers to show off their tattoos and facial hair moving forward.

On Monday, the Arlington Police Department announced a change to their tattoo and facial hair policy. Officers will now be able to show off their ink, as previously they had to cover up any visible tattoos with clothing. “We hope this will not only enhance our employees' quality of work life, but will also mean that APD won't miss out on well-qualified applicants who may not have been keen on working here because they'd have to wear long sleeves / pants during the warmest parts of the year to cover their tattoos," said the department.

According to CBS DFW, the department will also relax their rules about facial hair, saying employees will be allowed to grow and display facial hair within certain guidelines. Other police departments have made similar changes in recent years. Soon a clean shaven look will seem unprofessional.
