The city of Arlington missed out when FIFA announced that the 2026 World Cup Final will be played at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, and not at AT&T Stadium.  AT&T Stadium will see nine matches contested, however, the most of any venue.

Actually, let us rephrase that: Dallas Stadium will see nine matches contested.

FIFA does not allow corporate sponsors to represent venues, so the stadium will not be allowed to be called by its proper name.  And unfortunately, Arlington appears to get the shaft twice with this entire situation as the stadium won't even be called Arlington Stadium.

Residents of Arlington are not happy, as you can imagine.

Per the Dallas Morning News, One person wrote on Facebook, "Arlington becomes Dallas' little sister again."  Another joked, "Arlington doesn't exist. It's a figment of someone's imagination." And one person pointed the blame at Dallas itself writing, "Dallas trying so hard to use everything Arlington to stay relevant in the world."

Arlington Mayor Jim Ross isn't pleased AT&T Stadium will be renamed Dallas Stadium for the World Cup, but he looks forward to the amount of money the tournament will bring, much of which will go to Arlington.

"Am I happy that it's being branded something other than Arlington? No, it doesn't thrill me," he said. "Look, I would love for it to be called Arlington Stadium, but I get it.

"The bottom line is we are going to put on a wonderful show, and people will know that Arlington is the best place to host the World Cup."
