Ever since 1997’s ‘Good Will Hunting,’ Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been two of the most recognizable names in Hollywood. However, while fame quickly followed the film’s release, fortune didn’t happen right away for the actors. Apparently soon they were right back to being broke, as Affleck recently told the story of how the two blew all their ‘Good Will Hunting’ money within six months.
Ben Affleck stopped by ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ recently to promote his new movie, ‘Air,’ with Matt Damon, and shared a story from the two actors early days in the industry. During the interview, the actor revealed the two struggling actors earned $600,000 after selling the script for ‘Good Will Hunting,’ but sadly the money didn’t last long. Affleck said after taxes and agent fees they “each bought $55,000 Jeep Cherokees, and then had $55,000 left, which naturally we decided to rent a $5,000-a-month party house on Glencoe Way by the Hollywood Bowl.”
According to NME, the actor claimed they were broke within six months. Clearly, the two learned their lesson and luckily went on to have successful careers. Maybe they will spend their entire check from ‘Air’ for old time’s sake.
