Cities are always looking for different ways to improve their town. For the city of Dallas, that means bringing in goats to prevent floods and fires. Dallas Water Utilities recently hired a firm specializing in goat vegetation to clear brush in hopes of addressing several issues related to storm water and flood management.
Last week, Dallas Water Utilities deployed a group of goats to clear vegetation in an area of East Dallas that has been experiencing heavy underbrush that is impeding storm water flow. According to WFAA, the goats were used in a creekbed along Apple Valley Way. “We are doing a full assessment of the results hoping to expand it citywide," said Eduardo Valerio, assistant director of storm water operations with Dallas Water Utilities.
Cutting down on brush not only prevents flooding but also reduces fire danger. While using goats to prevent fires and floods may seem odd, the company has been around for three years and has used goats to clear vegetation all over North Texas. If a goat is spotted around town, it may just be doing its job.
