The city of Dallas has made a concerted effort recently to construct more parks and now have identified a potential solution to raise more revenue at all of these new, beautiful sites.

The city is considering placing “large-format advertising signs” along the perimeter of their parks in order to generate funds for the park system.

Deputy Director Ryan O’Connor told the council’s Finance Committee, “A few locations could, could generate, you know, up to 10 million bucks a year.”

According to NBC DFW, staff members also said the city could also receive six- to seven-figure “signing bonuses” from advertising partners, in addition to ongoing annual revenue.

O’Connor said that not every park would be a candidate for advertisement, explaining that neighborhood parks “clearly would not be” appropriate locations.

He added that the ultimate goal is to lessen the park system’s reliance on Dallas’ general fund. “We, the park department, have been looking diligently at ways to maximize revenue opportunities and pursuing things that we hadn't traditionally pursued,” he said.
