The plot of Caddyshack people seem to forget is Danny Noonan’s quest for obtaining a caddie scholarship.
Now, golf-loving students in Texas can vie for the same opportunity, though we think their quests will involve a lot less gophers. And probably no appearances from Bill Murray.
But the Western Golf Association has expanded its youth caddie program to Texas, which makes their alumni eligible for the Evans Scholarship of $125,000.
Mike Costello, a WGA director and Evans Scholar alum, said in a statement per CultureMap Dallas, “For years, Texas has been an area of focus for us to develop youth caddie programs, and we are now seeing real momentum at clubs throughout the state.
“With strong backing from club leaders and partners like First Tee, we are creating meaningful opportunities for young people to work hard, grow in confidence, and see all the benefits of caddying.”
The Western Golf Association will host three Evans Scholar alumni golf events this fall in Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and Houston this year to fundraise for the scholarship's continued work.
