While the Cowboys prepare for an on-field battle with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are preparing for a legal battle with the band My Chemical Romance.
The parent company of the DCC, Pro Silver Star, has filed a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against the band after one of their recent performances featured cheerleaders on stage whose uniforms, according to Pro Silver Star, resembled the DCC’s a little too much.
According to the court filing, MCR’s performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles last Wednesday featured dancers “wearing outfits that appeared nearly identical to the squad’s iconic white and blue uniforms.”
Pro Silver Star wrote, “Audience members and online commentators understandably believed that the performers were the real Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and said so in social media posts that continue to circulate.”
Per NBC News, Pro Silver Star says it is not “litigious,” and has no problem with MCR’s “music, its artistic ambitions, or any message Defendants seek to convey,” they just ask the performers “not wear the DCC Uniform while doing it. The universe of alternative costume designs is effectively unlimited.”
Representatives for the band and Pro Silver Star did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
