North Dallas resident Michael Crow was preparing for bed when he saw some unusual movement outside his home near Walnut Hill Lane and U.S. 75.
He told WFAA, “I saw what I thought were animals that looked like they were almost dancing.”
Upon further inspection it wasn’t dancing, but two animals engaged in a fevered battle: a coyote and an opossum!
Though opossums usually play dead when confronted by predators, this one was standing its ground. "That possum is badass," Crow said. "He was going to do whatever he needed to do to stay alive and survive."
Fearing the fight would end with a “murder scene” in his yard, Crow opened the door and made loud noises and clapped before the coyote scurried away.
Even after the coyote left, the opossum looked like it was still itching for a fight.
"The coyote did not return, but the possum stayed right where he was, right by that lamppost, for probably another 30 minutes. He did not move," Crow said.
