There are some rivalries that will likely go on for the rest of time, but arguably none are as contentious as the rivalry between dogs and mail carriers. It doesn’t matter who the delivery person is, what uniform they’re wearing, or how they approach the home; a dog will start barking the moment they hear the truck pull up. Now, USPS is claiming Dallas is one of the worst cities in America for dog attacks on drivers, claiming there were 44 attacks in 2022.
Dog attacks on mail carriers are so common, USPS began tracking the data, and now they have released their rankings of the worst cities for these attacks. According to WFAA, Dallas was the third worst city in America, with only Houston and Los Angeles ahead. Houston’s 57 dog attacks last year were the most of any city in America.
Overall, there were 404 dog attacks on USPS drivers in Texas for 2022. “When letter carriers deliver mail in our communities, dogs that are not secured or leashed can become a nemesis and unpredictable and attack,” said USPS employee safety and health awareness manager Leeann Theriault. Maybe this will help end the rivalry between dogs and mail carriers, or maybe the dogs just know something humans don’t.
