The Dallas Zoo is encouraging all North Texans to support their new gorilla conservation effort by simply recycling all of their old electronics, including used phones, tablets, smartwatches and other handheld devices.

No, the zoo isn't going to teach the gorillas how to use Zoom, but the "Gorillas on the Line" campaign wants to help encourage gorilla conservation in two ways: by reducing the demand for coltan, which is a mineral that is used to make electronics and mined in areas critical to gorilla habitat, and by raising funds for field projects that protect gorillas.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Zoo has partnered with Eco-Cell, a company specializing in responsible electronics recycling, as part of a global effort supported by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, as well as the Gorilla SAFE program.

All proceeds from donated devices will go directly to the Gorilla SAFE program.

Guests can drop off all of their used devices at the membership booth near the main entrance through September 1.
