DFW may not have always been known as a great area for food, but it is quickly becoming one thanks to a number of chefs and restaurants. While most would think to search for Tex-Mex or barbeque when in North Texas, in recent years a variety of cuisines have popped up in the metroplex that have quickly become beloved. Now, some of these restaurants are being honored, as 9 chefs and 6 restaurants from DFW were recently named finalists for this year’s James Beard Awards.

The James Beard Foundation’s annual restaurant and chef awards are considered by many to be the Oscars of the food world. This year’s nominees featured many names from DFW, including Outstanding Chef: Junior Borges of Meridian, Outstanding Restaurant: Lucia, Best New Restaurant: Restaurant Beatrice, Tatsu and Don Artemio, and Outstanding Bakery: La Casita Bakeshop and Kuluntu Bakery.

According to Dallas Culture Map, a number of DFW chefs were also included on the Best Chef list. Those names were Reyna Duong of Sandwich Hag, Olivia López and Jonathan Percival of Molino Olōyō, Anastacia Quiñones-Pittman of José, Regino Rojas of Revolver Taco Lounge and Jalen Heard, Lane Milne, and Jonny White of Goldee's Barbecue. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in June. Thanks to these chefs and restaurants, DFW may be a foodie town after all.
