For the first half of the 20th century Cedar Hill, Texas had only one school. Now, with more schools throughout the district, Cedar Hill ISD announced that original school will be closing their doors for good at the end of this school year. After more than 100 years, Bray Elementary will close on May 26, as students, faculty and staff are expected to be rezoned for next school year.
Bray Elementary first opened in 1901, and has been teaching kids in Cedar Hill ever since. In recent years, the school had about 300 pre-K through fifth-grade students, but will now close due to declining enrollment, failed bond elections, and lack of critical funding for the building. “Unfortunately, the building does not provide our scholars and staff with a safe school environment that meets the needs of learning or teaching in the 21st century," said The Bray Way Forward school newsletter.

According to WFAA, concerns for the school include poor roof conditions, plumbing issues, lack of storage space, and outdated security systems. Now, the school district is working on rezoning Bray students, with hopes of having a finalized plan by April 14. Hopefully the plan works out well for families in the area.
