A major upgrade is coming to Fair Park that has many throughout the metroplex very excited. The home of the State Fair of Texas recently announced plans to build a 14-acre community park on top of space previously occupied by a parking lot. The new community park is expected to be ready by 2024.

On Thursday, Fair Park unveiled their plans for the new community park to the public for the first time. According to NBC DFW, the park will feature gardens, picnic areas, a community stage and pavilion, play areas, a dog park, market grove, water elements and various outdoor spaces. Located off South Fitzhugh Avenue between Exposition Avenue and Lagow Street, the park will be free of fencing and open to the public.

“The community will benefit from it, hopefully. But the entire city will profit by it if it is done right and done well and so, this has been my motivation,” said Pastor Donald Parish Senior of True Lee Missionary Baptist Church in South Dallas. The new park is expected to break ground in January 2023. Soon Big Tex will have somewhere to relax in the offseason.
