Fall may have just started, but plenty throughout the metroplex are already thinking about winter. Sadly, one of the metroplex’s favorite wintertime activities won’t be around this year. It was announced this week that Panther Island Ice would close after nine years.

There aren’t many outdoor ice rinks in North Texas, and now there will be one less as the Tarrant Regional Water District announced on Tuesday that Panther Island Ice would be shutting their doors. The 4,000 square-foot ice skating rink at Coyote Drive-In first opened in 2013, and while it will definitely be missed TRWD said the concept will "continue to be available through other venues in Tarrant County."

According to NBC DFW, it is unclear if Panther Island Ice will continue in the future. For now, DFW will just have to find a new place to ice skate. Sadly, winter won’t be the same without the Fort Worth staple.
