North Texans should prepare for a few weeks of beautiful fall weather before we land right smack dab in the middle of winter.
But there are worst places to be when the weather turns chilly. In fact, a new study from Wallet Hub found that DFW is one of the best.
The Metroplex ranked third in Wallet Hub’s report detailing the Best Winter Holiday Destinations in 2026, finishing just behind Las Vegas and San Diego.
According to CW33, WalletHub studied 70 of the largest U.S. metropolitan areas, separating locations into warm-weather and cold-weather categories. They ranked the metros based on 37 key metrics, including travel expenses, safety, local costs, weather forecasts, and available activities.
DFW placed third among warm weather metros, ranking second overall in both travel costs and hassles and weather forecasts, fifth for local costs, 12th for attractions, and 12th for activities.
Austin and Phoenix finished behind DFW for warm weather metros. The best cold weather cities for holiday travel include Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, New York, and Cincinnati.
