This month, the DFW Curling Club, the only club celebrating the sport to exist in the city, celebrated the opening of its new facility.
Unfortunately, that celebration has been muddled after thieves broke in this past Sunday and stole $20,000 in tools and equipment.
The thieves not only stole tools, but trashed the pro shop, and drank beer and ate pizzas from the concession area. DFW Curling Club president Brigitte Minucci told WFAA, “They spent several hours in the building kind of trashing it, throwing things everywhere.”
Irving police are currently investigating, and have collected potential evidence, including fingerprints and DNA left at the scene. And thankfully, security cameras captured the individuals breaking into the building and even showed one of them wearing merch taken from the pro shop.
The club is now working to determine how to replace the stolen items and move forward, all while preparing for its next event.
The DFW Curling Club DFW will host an Open 5U National Qualifier starting November 6th and a Junior's Program in December.
