Arlington-based homebuilder D.R. Horton has recently signed a deal with Toronto’s Promise Robotics to help automate the homebuilding process.

Promise Robotics says they can build the frame for a two-story, 1,800-square-foot house in just about 8 hours, before the frames are shipped off to a job site. Promise’s robots will handle most of the factory production, including components like stairs, doors, and window frames. Its facilities recently began incorporating plumbing and HVAC components into the process as well.

Promise Robotics says they utilize a “factory as a service” platform which, according to Realtor.com, will allow D.R. Horton to “use Promise's AI-enhanced production capabilities without investing in a factory buildout.”

D.R. Horton says they are looking for ways to remain competitive in a “softening housing market,” citing that lagging construction times, building material shortages, supply chain disruptions, and a tight labor market have squeezed their profit margins.

Promise co-founder and CEO Ramtin Attar said, “Homebuilding has long lacked the production infrastructure needed to scale with the speed, predictability, and efficiency of modern manufacturing.

"Our goal is to make that capability accessible to builders across North America and support the industry's long-term growth.”
