It already takes some bravery to become a police officer, but one member of the Irving Police Department recently showed his bravery is unmatched. The police department recently received a call about a massive snake that was preventing someone from getting to their car. Luckily, Irving police officer Steve Burres has a “hidden talent” for handling snakes and was put to work on Tuesday capturing the 8-foot snake with ease.

Calls about snakes are pretty rare for police departments here in DFW, but when they do occur, the Irving Police Department is happy to have officer Steve Burres on their side. The police officer has captured multiple snakes on duty in the past, and the latest came this week when an 8-foot snake was spotted in a parking lot. “Officer Burres is our snake whisperer," the police department said in a post showing the officer with the snake.

According to WFAA, the police department later found out the snake was named “Ms. Bonnie” and had escaped from its home. Sadly, it is illegal for people to own snakes larger than 6 feet in Irving, so the snake will now be transported to a wildlife rehabilitation sanctuary. At least now people in Irving know who to call when they run into a snake.
