This year, let someone else worry about the Thanksgiving turkey.

Planning for that magnificent feast is a stressful endeavor, so it should be reassuring to learn that one of the best Thanksgiving turkeys in the nation is right here in DFW.

A new publication from the New York Times calls the turkey at Lockhart Smokehouse one of the very best, ranking it in their top five mail-order smoked turkeys.

Per the Dallas Morning News, the Times’ Wirecutter team said Lockhart’s turkey arrives “stunning” and “plump,” and arrives with a 1-pound block of butter shoved inside the turkey that melts when the turkey is warmed in the oven.

It provides a “rich, luscious fattiness that can only be described as a damn delight.”

Lockhart’s smoked turkey will cost you $139.95 before tax and handling and feeds six to eight people. It can be sent across the country through Goldbelly.

Lockhart says that turkeys should be ordered online by Nov. 17, 2026 in order to arrive in time for Thanksgiving.
