This Fourth of July weekend was one of the busiest travel weekends in history. Not that something like this is never an inconvenience when it happens, but traveling on a holiday is already stressful enough, right?
Dallas Love Field had to close a runway Friday morning after a man drove his car through a gate into a tarmac area of the airport.
According to the Dallas Morning News, 53-year-old Benjamin Chitenje intentionally crashed into another car in a parking lot in the 8600 block of Lemmon Avenue before driving through a gate and into the secured tarmac area of the airport shortly after 6 a.m.
A brief chase ensued, in which airport operations were paused, before Chitenje was apprehended.
Chitenje was taken to Dallas County Jail where he is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, terroristic threat interrupt public place, criminal trespass, evading arrest detention with a vehicle, and a misdemeanor drug charge.
The runway was reopened to air traffic at about 9:17 that morning.
