t was intended to be a last-minute meetup for English soccer fans in North Texas for their country’s World Cup match against Croatia.
The event’s organizer John Gallivan expected around 200 people to show up at The Londoner Pub on Mockingbird Ln. Tuesday night.
It was a lot more than 200 people.
Official numbers aren’t known, but the swarm of England fans drank around 5,000 beers, spent $29,000, and finished everything in stock around 10pm, forcing the pub to close early.
The police were even called to help with crowd control, though Gallivan claims it was to kick England fans out. Charlotte Tate, owner and director of operations for The Londoner Pub, denies these claims, and says the officers saw that no criminal offenses were being committed and left the bar, but remained in the area.
England defeated Croatia 4-2. The Londoner has additional locations in Colleyville and Addison.
