Usually when a highway is shut down, drivers just assume it was either due to construction or an accident. However, for those that had to take a detour on highway 67 in Midlothian over the weekend, it was for a reason most would never guess. Police had to shut down a portion of the highway after two longhorns escaped their trailer.

On Sunday, police were called to highway 67 near 9th street after two longhorns were spotted on the median. According to CBS DFW, the longhorns were able to escape their trailer after the back doors opened unexpectedly. The incident occurred just after 2 P.M. and the highway didn’t reopen until just before 5 P.M.

The longhorns were eventually corralled, with one being led back to its trailer by a good Samaritan from the Cowboy Church in Ellis County. Luckily, the longhorns were unharmed and didn’t cause any accidents. Hopefully this doesn’t happen again, or else Texas may need to start putting up “longhorn crossing” signs.
