Texas is not without a bevy of very difficult towns to pronounce.

Even when the spelling seems simple, names like Mexia, Waxahachie, and even Bexar County can throw non-natives for a loop.

One town name stands before all the rest before, and was recently named by Reader’s Digest as one of the most difficult to pronounce in the entire country.

We’re talking, of course, about Nacogdoches.

Nestled in East Texas, RD says about the “Oldest Town in Texas:”

Remember, we were talking about Natchitoches, Louisiana, which is pronounced NAH-code-ish? And we told you not to confuse it with the similarly named town in Texas? Well, here’s where the rubber meets the road, so to speak. The similarly-named town in Texas, Nacogdoches, is pronounced NAH-coh-DOE-chess. Really, it’s not all that hard to pronounce, at least compared to the one in Louisiana, if you remember that the G is silent.
