The first day on the job in any profession can be extremely stressful, as mistakes are guaranteed to be made. Apparently this is the case for NFL coaches as well, as the new head coach of the Detroit Lions recently made a major slip up during his first meeting with reporters. Coach Darrell Bevell let reporters know about his daughters’ boyfriend’s plan to propose, however they hadn’t yet done so, ruining the surprise for both his daughters.
Bevell took over the head coaching job for the Lions after coach Matt Patricia was fired over the weekend, but his tenure got off to a rocky start. The coach was excited to tell reporters why he was in such a good mood, sharing the story of his daughters’ boyfriends asking his permission for marriage. The only problem was the question hadn’t been popped yet, and the coach revealed the news on a live Zoom call.
He seemed to realize his mistake towards the end saying, “The two guys who asked me for my permission, they haven't officially asked them yet. So, that's where that was. That was just permission.” Hopefully his daughters didn’t watch his first press conference as head coach.
